Matt Rhule knows exactly how to fix Nebraska football

USC will be in the Big Ten next year. It’s time to learn more about the schools and football programs the Trojans will soon join.

We talked to Cornhuskers Wire about Nebraska football. Site editor Evan Bredeson addressed a lot of topics in a wide-ranging conversation.

We asked Evan how Matt Rhule is going about the process of remaking Nebraska football after Scott Frost’s disastrous tenure.

The answer was clear, immediate, and resonant, as Bredeson told it:

“He wanted to turn Nebraska into the premier player development college in the country, the place where you could go and when you leave Nebraska, you’re not just going to play in the NFL, but you’re gonna be ready for your second contract. That’s his big thing: getting guys prepared to earn their second contract in the NFL,” Bredeson said.

This answer is noteworthy in its own right, but it is also significant in light of the reality that player development — Rhule’s point of emphasis — is precisely where Scott Frost fell short. Bredeson addressed this reality in another part of our interview, which you can listen to below:
