After landing Papillion-Lavista’s Eric Ingweson, it appeared that Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi rubbed some salt in Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule’s wound.

One of the things Matt Rhule is known for, especially since coming to Lincoln, is his Twitter game. Specifically, the Nebraska football head coach made noise by constantly using emojis when talking about recruits.

Pat Narduzzi, who has a bit of a reputation for being a jerk, apparently decided it would be super funny if he used emojis to talk to one of Pitt’s latest commits. That commit, Eric Ingwerson, hails from Papillion-Lavista, in Nebraska. And that’s why it sure looked like Narduzzi was taking a shot at Rhule.

It doesn’t appear as though there’s ever been any kind of feud between Narduzzi and Rhule, so this isn’t the continuation of bad blood. At least on the surface. So that just means Narduzzi is indeed just being a crud. There’s also the fact that there’s still time for Nebraska football to make up some ground when it comes to Ingwerson.

The tight end has a Husker offer, though, like Teddy Rezac, it might have come too late. But at least Rhule and company secured an official visit. Ingwerson is coming to Lincoln on June 16. Maybe the Cornhuskers can pry him away from Pitt on that visit.

While the Huskers do have time to get in the good graces of Ingwerson, it does feel like this is going to be a repeat of the Rezac situation. That’s unfortunate because Rhule promised shortly after he committed to Notre Dame that this particular situation would never happen again.

There’s a defense of Rhule, of course. Ingwerson isn’t that highly touted, even though he is getting P5 offers now. Nebraska football, Pitt, Northern Iowa, and Northern Illinois are currently the only four schools that made offers.

It’s possible that the state’s number nine prospect is going to get more attention in the coming weeks. But for now, the race seems to be between Nebraska football and Pitt. And that’s apparently why Narduzzi decided to fire a shot across the bow at Rhule.
