Authorities say they chased man through three Nebraska counties

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lexington man ran from law enforcement on Friday, the Nebraska State Patrol says, but he couldn’t hide.

Authorities said Jesus Torres, 42, was arrested after leading them on chases through three counties.

It began about 9:15 a.m., when a pickup truck fled an attempted traffic stop on Highway 83 in Logan County.

A deputy pursued the southbound Chevrolet Silverado, which was speeding and at times drove in the northbound lane, according to the patrol.

When the pickup reached Lincoln County, North Platte Police officers and Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies took over the chase.

But they stopped pursuing Torres as he entered North Platte for the sake of public safety, the patrol said.

Around 10 a.m., a trooper saw the pickup going east on Interstate 80 near Cozad and tried to pull it over.

But Torres sped off again, the patrol said, and authorities gave chase again.

After about 11 miles, the pickup exited I-80 and went east on Highway 30.

When the vehicle entered Lexington, law enforcement again called off the chase.

But state patrol dispatchers used the vehicle’s registration to find where the owner lived.

Troopers, Dawson County deputies and Lexington Police officers responded and saw the vehicle in the driveway.

Torres came out of the home and tried to run, according to the patrol, but was quickly caught.

He was arrested on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and obstructing a peace officer.

Torres was placed in the Dawson County Jail.

The patrol said additional charges are pending in Logan and Lincoln Counties.
