On Thursday morning, the Lower Platte River Consortium issued a plea for water conservation.

The Platte River experienced below-average flows last summer, which have lasted through this spring.

The river helps feed groundwater wells serving both cities and farms across the area.

“The Papio NRD will continue to work with the Consortium to monitor and share information with the public on the drought as we expect drier conditions again this year,” General Manager John Winkler said in a statement. “Water conservation is an important step that every individual can participate in to help protect our resources.”
