Another first for Nebraska coach Matt Rhule: the first group of incoming freshman football players reporting for summer workouts over the weekend. As the first summer session of summer school begins in Lincoln, it's another step in laying the foundation in his first season with the Huskers."I'm fired up to have them," Rhule said. "It's funny to see them in a different light. You saw them in the recruiting process, you saw them maybe at the spring game, but they're here now, they're in their gear. They're getting started. That's why they came here. They came to be a part of something special. I'm glad that they're finally getting a chance to get started."The Huskers are allowed eight hours of formal activity per week during the summer.Former Nebraska quarterback Logan Smothers will play college football at Jacksonville State — he's one of 3 scholarship quarterbacks to move on from the Huskers under Rhule.NU now has three scholarship quarterbacks: Jeff Sims, Heinrich Haarberg and Chubba Purdy, along with walk-on Jack Woche. Rhule said the number of QBs on the roster is no big deal."We have what we have," Rhule said. "I think in a good year, you have four. Some years I've had three. You have to be creative. Year one, for us to be able to get the roster to even where it's at right now, I think our guys have done a really good job. People are going to have to get used to a unique number in the new age where people can transfer. You can't plan it out three years in advance anymore. You gotta kind of deal with it as it comes. But I think what you can't do is, you can't panic. You can't overreact and take somebody who shouldn't be here, like there's a standard to be a Nebraska Cornhusker and we can only take guys who match that."KETV NewsWatch 7 will have more from our exclusive one-on-one interview with Matt Rhule on a special edition of Chronicle on Sunday morning.Get the latest headlines from KETV NewsWatch 7
