Man sentenced to 30 years for 1994 Spencer County rape thanks to DNA evidence
SPENCER CO. – Robert D. Shelton, 60, was sentenced to 30 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections in a rape case dating back to 1994 that was solved by DNA evidence. On December 5, 1994, a nineteen-year-old woman was kidnapped in Owensboro, Kentucky, and ordered to drive to southern Spencer County in Indiana under the threat of physical harm. Once in Spencer County, the victim was sexually assaulted by an unknown assailant (Shelton). The woman was then ordered to lie on the rear floorboard of her vehicle while the assailant (Shelton) drove back to Kentucky, parked the car, and fled.

High Ponies with a higher purpose
High Ponies is about two hours of controlled chaos each Tuesday evening in April. Led by Jill Wigand and her entourage of volunteer Jasper High School Dance team members, about 180 to 200 girls and some boys fill the Jasper Middle School gym. Through the evening, they move from station to station, performing and practicing dance, cheer and gymnastics routines while learning about self-esteem and character.
