On Monday, the Bulldog junior picked up all-Ohio honors for his play on the gridiron this season with first team Division VI all-Ohio honors in voting done by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.. KALIDA — Elyse Romes, of Kalida, signed her letter of intent Thursday to attend and play volleyball at Owens Community College. Romes was a first-team all-Putnam County League selection in 2023.

SIDNEY — The learning process continued for Sidney in a nonconference game on Monday. The Yellow Jackets had a few rough stretches in lopsided league wins over Greenville and Troy last week. There were more rough stretches (especially defensively) on Monday, and while they nearly overcame them, their last bad stretch was costly.

FORT JENNINGS — The Musketeers encountered a formidable opening weekend, achieving a balanced 1-1 split. They faced a setback against Arlington (76-57), but rebounded with a triumphant victory over Ada (73-56). On Friday night, the atmosphere at “The Fort” was charged as the North Central Eagles (1-0) entered, riding high on the momentum from their Thursday night win at Hilltop (71-47). Fort Jennings, determined to build on their previous success, delivered exactly that as they secured a hard-fought 61-43 victory.

HARROD — Allen East's girls basketball team grabbed a quick lead Thursday on their way to a 55-36 non-league win over Kenton. The Lady Mustangs had an 11-6 lead after the first eight minutes before taking a 28-14 lead into the locker room with a 17-8 second quarter scoring advantage.

SHAWNEE — Columbus Grove held the Shawnee offense in check over the final three quarters in a 56-35 non-league win Saturday. This was the second time in three days the Lady Bulldogs defeated a Western Buckeye League team.

SPENCERVILLE — Clara Goecke and Heidi Keller combined for 28 points in a win over Elida on Tuesday night.

ELIDA — Columbus Grove hit 11 three-pointers Thursday night as the Bulldogs opened the season with a 68-47 win over Elida. Columbus Grove was 11-of-26 shooting three-pointers as junior Lauryn Auchmuty led the way with four three-pointers made and Jade Siefker hit three three-pointers. Five different players knocked down a three-pointer in the game.

DELPHOS — The Delphos Jefferson Club Bowling team kicked off their 2023-24 season this past week with a bowling match against Bath. Leading the Wildcats were senior bowlers Tyler Wilkins and Ashton Milligan. Wilkins had a strong showing as he bowled a 231. Milligan followed suit as he bowled 11 of 12 strikes to get a score of 280. Unfortunately, the team came up shy of beating Bath in this opening match.

ADA – The young and inexperienced Ada boys basketball team tipped off its season with a close 48-41 loss to visiting county rival Ridgemont Friday night. The Bulldogs played well, but a lapse in the third period proved to be the difference.

DELPHOS — Columbus Grove took home two of the three top awards in voting done by Northwest Conference coaches after the season concluded. Trenton Bararza was named the NWC Offensive Player of the Year, while Andy Schafer was named the Coach of the Year.

ELIDA – The first game of the Tip Off Classic on Friday night at the Elida Fieldhouse was a one-sided 53-31 win by LCC, and it appeared the second game might be headed in the same direction when Elida built a 17-point lead halfway through the second quarter of its game against Shawnee.

DELPHOS — The Delphos Jefferson girls' basketball team used stellar shooting and rebounding to knock off invading Antwerp 63-32 Tuesday evening at Jefferson High School. The Lady Wildcats (4-0) canned 23 of 41 shots (7 of 14 long range) for 56.1% and outrebounded the Lady Archers (2-1) 38-16 (12-4 offensive).
