Long Islander shatters world record for longest time living underwater
A biomedical engineering professor from Lindenhurst has broken the broken world record for the longest stretch of time spent living underwater. Currently residing in a 100-square-foot, under-the-sea bunker located in a lagoon in Key Largo, Florida, Joseph Dituri, 55, earlier this month surpassed the previous record of 73 days, set back in 2014 by two Tennessee educators. The University of South Florida professor will continue residing 30 feet below the waterâs surface for another 10 days, with his heart set on reaching 100 days.

This Hidden Gem Restaurant Is Worth the Price of Admission
There is nothing better to inaugurate the summer season than a visit to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. This past weekend, a friend and I discovered lavender bearded irises; snowy white viburnum; pink columbine looking like moon landers, and deep red peonies with yellow filaments waving in the middle of their softball-size blossoms. Best of all was the rose garden, laid out in symmetric rows that led to a decorative pergola, with over 5,000 bushes in 1,000 varieties. The fragrance was overpowering.
Jericho Student Earns Prize in International ARTEFFECT Competition
The Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes (LMC) announced the nine winners of the 8th annual ARTEFFECT competition. The international competition challenges students to creatively interpret the stories of Unsung Heroes through original works of art accompanied by artist impact statements. LMC awarded the $6,000 Grand Prize to Celine Fong, an 11th grader at Rye Country Day School in Rye, New York. Over $10,000 in cash prizes was awarded to the eight other winning students across the high school and middle school divisions.
