Covington Commuters Detour as Crews Remove Hazardous Tree from Shelton Park
Commuters in Covington, Tennessee faced a slight disruption this morning as work crews took to Shelton Park, undertaking the task of removing a tree that posed a traffic hazard. The Covington Tennessee Police Department alerted the public via social media, advising that Church Street would temporarily be closed between Hwy 51 and A. College Street. Traffic, as well as daily routines, were expected to detour around the heart of this small city until noon.

Jackson Transit Authority begins transfer center remodel: 'Safer environment for our riders'
The Jackson Transit Authority's downtown transfer center is undergoing a remodel to enhance the rider experience. Located directly across from the Jackson-Madison County Library on East Lafayette Street, preliminary construction commenced on Sept. 22. Chain link fences surround the property, and buses, which would formerly pull into the station, are now dropping off and picking up passengers while pulled over, hugging the curb of the street. A project several years in the making, JTA Grants Manager Melinda Clark reports that the center's renovations are poised for completion by March 2026. THP sobriety checkpoints for October 2025
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released a list of sobriety checkpoints across the state for October 2025. Although sobriety checkpoints remove impaired drivers from road, the primary purpose of checkpoints is to deter driving after drinking among the general population by increasing the perceived risk of being caught and arrested. To do this, checkpoints must be highly visible, publicized extensively, and conducted regularly, as part of an ongoing sobriety checkpoint program.

Whether you are headed to the Jackson or Hornsby/Selmer areas, once you arrive at the intersection of Highways North 18 and South 125, you will no longer have to guess, which lane you should be in to continue safely onto to your destination. TDOT workers were out on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, adding arrows on the ground at the intersection, which will hopefully make it easier for local and out-of-town drivers to choose the correct lane, especially when heading towards the Hornsby/Selmer area.
