SERVICE. THEY’RE USUALLY WEARING AN ORANGE JUMPSUIT, BUT THIS PROJECT HELPS THEM REMEMBER WHEN THEY PROUDLY SERVED THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE. IT IS FOR ALL VETERANS, NOT JUST INMATE VETERANS, BUT ALSO THE STAFF AND THE OFFICERS. WE WANT TO GIVE THEM THE SAME RESPECT THAT WE WOULD ANY OF THE REST OF THE INMATES AT LEXINGTON CORRECTIONAL CENTER ARE WORKING HARD TO CREATE A VETERAN’S MEMORIAL WALL COMMEMORATING THE NAMES OF INMATES AND OKLAHOMA CORRECTIONS STAFF WHO ARE NO LONGER WITH US. I FIND IT BENEFICIAL FOR THE STATE. IT’S BENEFICIAL FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS. IT’S BENEFICIAL NOT ONLY FOR THESE GUYS, BUT THEIR FAMILIES. BUT IT’S ALSO BENEFICIAL FOR ME. THE WALL STARTED WITH A VISION THAT BEGAN SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND EVOLVED FROM A FLAGPOLE TO MEMORIAL WALL IN THE CENTER OF THE PRISON, A PART OF SOMETHING THAT’S SPECIAL BECAUSE IT’S REALLY SOMETHING TO BE A PART OF, YOU KNOW, IT’S SOMETHING TO HOLD YOUR HEAD UP ABOUT AND BE POSITIVE. ABOUT FIVE FOOT FIVE INCHES THERE ON THE PROJECT IS BEING COMPLETED BY INMATES WITH THE HELP OF $10,000 WORTH OF DONATED MATERIALS TO CREATE THE WALL, GIVING BACK TO THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVED OUR COUNTRY.
