North Limestone Homicide Investigation

The Lexington Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred overnight near the intersection of North Limestone and West Short Street.  

At 2:43 a.m. on May 28, 2023, officers were dispatched to North Limestone and West Short Street Avenue for a shooting. When they arrived, they located a male victim outside suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Kevin Reel, 35. 

During the investigation, officers learned that Scott Lawless, 31, shot and killed Mr. Reel. Lawless was arrested and charged with Murder. He is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.
