Rose and Jim’s Bar is your typical neighborhood bar. Just ask owner, Jimalou Bayes.

“We serve good cheeseburgers, cold beer, it’s an adult playground," Bayes said.

Bayes never thought the bar would be a spot for violence, but Monday night was a stark reminder that crime can happen to anyone.

“It’s something out of a movie, like you said horrific," Bayes said.

Rose and Jim’s Bar has many regulars, some even call it home. Including Dave DiLeonardo, a veteran that has lived on the property for the last 18 years.

Monday, DiLeonardo crossed paths with Steven Sheangshang. Sheangshang is accused of shooting and killing Scott County Deputy Caleb Conley. Police say after stealing a vechile in Georgetown, Sheanshang came to the bar, shot DiLeonardo twice and stole his vehicle.

Bayes describes her friend as quiet, but friendly.

"He’s just a normal guy; getting up going to work, doing his thing," Bayes said.

With no family in town, Bayes has set up a GoFundMe for DiLeonardo to cover his medical expenses.

“I am the only family, my son, a few of the guys that he knows here," Bayes said.

On July 8th, the bar will host a benefit for DiLeonardo as well as the family of Deputy Caleb Conley.

“I feel we’re connected. We’re connected through Georgetown, we’re connected through Kentuckians, we all bleed blue in more ways than one I guess," Bayes said.

Bayes is also accepting cash donations at the bar for DiLeonardo’s medical expenses.

DiLeoanardo is still recovering from the shooting.

Sheangshang pleaded not guilty Wednesday afternoon to all charges stemming from that incident. He will be arraigned Tuesday morning for the killing of Deputy Conley in Scott County.
