(Area) Spring turkey season is around the corner.
Youth hunters will take to the field in less than two weeks. “And that’s a great season. Hopefully we get decent weather for the youth hunters. It’s always kind of mixed bag so early in April. It can be cold, it can even snow during that youth season. The good thing about those you tags, just like the deer, that youth turkey tag is good for any of the other four season yet to come. We hope we can get the youth out for multiple trips and have a successful turkey hunt.”
Bryan Hayes with the Iowa DNR Office in Lewis indicates the Youth Hunt can be viewed as a learning opportunity. “We want those youth hunts to focus on the youth. Not necessarily focus on bagging that turkey, but focus on the approach and safety. Just make it a good time for that youth hunter out there.”
Youth Season is April 7th-9th followed by Season 1 April 10th-13th.
