WPD Damages Nov. 13-19, 2023
Two cases of damage were reported to the Winslow Police Department during the period of Nov. 13-19 according to dispatcher reports. At 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, a resident reported damage to 10 windows of a residence on the 500 block of West Aspinwall Avenue. The damage was estimated at $56,246.

Winslow council increases their salaries for the first time in 40 years
In a significant move reflecting a change not seen since 1983, the Winslow City Council has voted to increase the monthly stipends for its council members and the mayor during last week’s meeting of the Winslow City Council. This decision raises the council members’ stipend from $200 to $400 and the mayor’s from $400 to $800. The last adjustment in stipends was made in the early 1980s when the original amounts set in the 1960s were doubled. This recent increase is intended to reflect the level of work and commitment demonstrated by the current council and mayor.

The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office reported the following activity in Areas 1 and 2 during the period of Nov. 5-11. Areas 1 and 2 include Joseph City, Woodruff, Sun Valley, Goodwater, Adamana, unincorporated areas of Winslow and Holbrook, and parts of the Navajo and Hopi reservations that are located within the boundaries of Navajo County. WUSD recognize staff and student awards
During last week’s meeting of the Winslow Unified School District’s Governing Board, the district’s commitment to arts education was underscored by the recognition of Denise Estudillo, who received the Distinguished Service Outside of the Profession Award from the Arizona Art Educators Association. This state-level acknowledgment celebrates her efforts in ensuring resources and support for various arts and music programs. Her work has been instrumental in maintaining a vibrant arts environment in the district. Two of the district’s art teachers, Christa Knox and Laura Pontel, spoke about the help Estudillo have given to the arts. Estudillo has been instrumental in finding additional funding to support the arts programs in the district including finding funding for a new kiln at Winslow Junior High School and finding funding for instruments for students who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford them.
