Charlton school teacher Todd Peloquin placed on leave following rape, assault charges

A Charlton Middle School teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave after being arrested and charged with aggravated rape and indecent assault and battery.

Todd Peloquin, 52, was arrested by the Leicester Police Department on March 9 after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Peloquin is facing several charges including aggravated rape, two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and one count of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over.

On March 10, Peloquin pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him in East Brookfield District Court and Judge Maura McCarthy set bail at $25,000 surety bond or $2,500 cash. Peloquin was released on bail, according to East Brookfield District Court clerk’s office.

A statement of facts in the case was impounded, according to the office.

In a statement, Dudley-Charlton Regional Superintendent Steven Lamarche said Peloquin was placed on paid administrative leave effective March 9 after receiving information regarding his arrest. The statement does not detail the charges Peloquin faces.

Peloquin teaches seventh grade English Language Arts at Charlton Middle School, according to the school website.

Lamarche said the schools in his district were not associated with the arrest, but that he and his staff will cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies if contacted.

“As always, the health and safety of Dudley-Charlton Regional School students and staff remain our top priority. We support the work of our law enforcement agencies,” Lamarche wrote. “We take all allegations of misconduct very seriously and act swiftly and thoroughly in compliance with School Committee policy and state and local laws.”

Peloquin is next due in court on May 16.
