For athletes, new turf infill means old problems
N May of 2018, the Montgomery County Board of Education voted seven to one to approve the installation of a $1.3 million turf field at Whitman, despite controversy surrounding its infill material, ZeoFill. At the time, community members expressed concern about the lack of publicly available research on ZeoFill’s safety and durability.

Jordan Hawkins, an All-Big East 6’5, 190 pound guard for the #4 seed UCONN Huskies, will lead his team against the #3 seed Gonzaga Bulldogs tonight at 8:49pm as the teams compete in an Elite Eight battle to get into the Final Four. Hawkins is a Montgomery County native who attended Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Germantown and Gaithersburg High School for his freshman and sophomore years before transferring to DeMatha.

College Fair Set for April 18-19 in Germantown
The annual Montgomery County National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) National College Fair will be held on Tuesday, April 18 and Wednesday, April 19, at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown. This free event will feature representatives from about 300 colleges and universities, and provides resources to students and parents navigating the college admissions process. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days and is open to Grade 11 students attending with their schools.

Parents help save local Loudoun County baseball field
A popular little league in Loudoun County thought they’d be without their homefield due to a surprise sale. Confusion emerged after players’ families heard the ballpark had been sold and thought the new owner was forcing them out just as the spring season was getting started. Another Woodgrove sports season is coming up and here are some athletes you should keep an eye on. After she made the switch over from baseball, Senior Annika Rohs started playing softball at age 12. Rohs is pursuing her academic and softball career at Virginia Tech and offers a piece of advice: “Don’t take your four years for granted. Listen and respect what your coaches do for you; they put in a lot of time and effort that is underappreciated and not seen.”

Women's Rugby To Battle Navy at Segra Field on Saturday
WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point women's rugby will take on service-academy rival Navy this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Leesburg, Virginia. It marks the lone 15s contest of the spring for Army before jumping into the 7s season the following weekend. Tuscarora Winter Sports Recap: A Successful Season
Tuscarora had an incredible season for winter sports, with athletes from wrestling, swim team, and track qualifying for and competing at VHSL State Championships. This wrestling season, Ibrahim Barokah and Tony Philpot competed in the VHSL Class 4 Wrestling State Championships at Virginia Beach. Barokah placed 4th in the 113 lbs weight class and Philpot placed 6th in the 106 lbs weight class.
