Woman dies after car strikes utility pole in Leesburg

LEESBURG, Fla. — An Ocala woman died early Monday in a vehicle crash along U.S. 27 in Lake County, the Leesburg Police Department said.

Around 12:45 a.m., officers responded to the area of U.S. 441 and U.S. 27 and found that a car had struck a power pole.

Police determined that the 2012 Hyundai had been traveling northbound on U.S. 27 when the driver lost control and impacted the pole.

Leesburg police said the driver, Enock Sulfa, 40, of Ocala, had two passengers with him at the time of the crash.

Larousse Telfort, 64, and his wife Maria Seraphin-Telfort, 66, both of Ocala, were rushed to a hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Police said Seraphin-Telfort did not survive.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to Leesburg police.
