Will Trey Kaufman-Renn make his KU basketball debut Wednesday vs. Louisville?
Trey Kaufman-Renn, the newest addition to the Kansas men’s basketball team, will sit on the bench and may participate in warmups for Wednesday’s exhibition against Louisville (6 p.m., Allen Fieldhouse). Whether the 6-foot-9, 240-pound former Purdue forward actually enters the game is less certain. “I think he’ll be able to, but I think that’s probably a reach just from a safety standpoint. He hasn’t gotten in very good shape yet,” Bill Self said Tuesday at Big 12 media day at T-Mobile Center. Kaufman-Renn arrived on campus Sunday and has practiced with the team only a couple of times. There is more time to condition. Kansas takes on Duke in another exhibition Sunday (noon) before the Nov. 2 season opener against Fordham, both at Allen Fieldhouse. Kaufman-Renn was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 29th pick of the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft. He played in summer league (6.6 points, 3.8 rebounds) but never signed a professional contract. A temporary restraining order and subsequent preliminary injunction cleared him to return for a sixth college season; the NCAA is expected to appeal. He takes the roster spot of freshman Grant Mordini, who suffered a season-ending patellar tendon injury last

Kansas men's basketball adds former Purdue forward Trey Kaufman-Renn to roster
Kansas has added former Purdue forward Trey Kaufman-Renn to its 2026-27 men’s basketball team, KU coach Bill Self announced Monday. Kaufman-Renn, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound native of Sellersburg, Indiana, was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 29th pick of the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft. But he recently was granted an injunction in Clark County, Indiana court, allowing him to return to college for a sixth season. The NCAA is expected to appeal but has not yet filed such an appeal. He did play in summer league for the Timberwolves but reportedly never signed a professional contract. He averaged 6.6 points and 3.8 rebounds in summer league action. Another Jayhawk who won another year of eligibility in the courtroom, Tre White , played for the Miami Heat NBA summer league team. Kaufman-Renn will take the roster spot of KU freshman Grant Mordini, who suffered a season-ending patellar tendon injury in practice last month. Mordini will remain with the team and rehab daily to be ready for the 2027-28 season, KU indicated in a release. “Trey Kaufman-Renn, who had a tremendous career at Purdue, has enrolled in classes and is practicing with us as of Sunday,” KU coach Bill

Former KU guard Jeff Boschee was impressed (& surprised) by one Jayhawk on Friday
Jeff Boschee had no desire to head out of town, to hurry back to Pittsburg, Kansas, after his Pittsburg State Gorillas’ 80-62 Late Night in the Phog exhibition loss to Kansas on Friday night at Allen Fieldhouse. “I’m hoping to go to ‘The Hawk’ after this,” the fifth-year Pittsburg State basketball coach/University of Kansas graduate said with a smile. His thoughts postgame weren’t on boarding a bus for the 2-hour, 15-minute ride back to southeast Kansas. They were on a favorite KU campus watering hole that remains as popular in 2026 as it was during Boschee’s KU playing days (1998-99 to 2001-02). Of course, he was only kidding about visiting the establishment. Boschee was all for trips to The Hawk at 21. At 46, coaching his fifth Pitt State team, the priorities are different. He didn’t need refreshments after watching his Division II team outscore Division I Kansas 22-21 in the first 10 minutes and get outscored by just one point in the second half, 33-32. “I thought our guys played decent. I think the biggest thing is we just competed,” Boschee said. “They wore us down, obviously, but our guys competed, and we were just a little bit smaller.”
