Sheldon, Thurston, West Albany, and Lebanon headed to State

After three days off, the Sheldon Irish softball team returned to the diamond Tuesday afternoon to punch their ticket to the 6A Softball State Championship game. The Irish recorded their fourth shut-out this postseason beating the five seed, Sherwood 2-0. Sheldon tallied 24 runs in five innings against Central Catholic in the first round, 10 in six innings against Grants Pass in the second round, and then back-to-back 2-0 wins over North Medford in the Quarterfinals and the Bowmen in the Semifinals. Payton Burnham continued her dominance on the mound having another double-digit strikeout day, while Avery Coffin got the Irish on the board early with a solo home run to center field. Now one seed Sheldon will face two seed Oregon City for the 6A State title Saturday May 3rd, 2023 at Jane Sanders Stadium located on the University of Oregon campus at 3 p.m.

In 5A softball, Lebanon upset two seed Bend to secure their spot in the 5A State championship game. The three Warriors will also play at Jane Sanders Stadium on Saturday, taking on Dallas/Perrydale at 12 p.m.
