A 16-year-old is in custody after he allegedly made threats toward his school and other students on social media.
Police in Leawood, Kansas said Blue Valley School District administrators contacted authorities on Sunday evening about a social media threat made toward students at Blue Valley North High School.
Police said Leawood officers were given the name of the suspect, and soon spoke to the teen and his parents at their home.
Police asked the 16-year-old about threats that were made on Snapchat toward other students. He was taken into custody.
"The Leawood Police Department takes the safety of our schools very seriously and there is not an active threat at this time," police said in a news release Tuesday. "We have been in continuous contact with the Blue Valley School District to ensure the safety of students and staff."
The teen was taken to a juvenile intake and assessment Sunday night and remains in custody as of midday Tuesday.
No other details were released.
