The crash occurred at 12:17 p.m. on Thursday, June 1 near Route 1 and Franklin Corner Road in Lawrence Township, police said.

Daijah McKithen of Lawrenceville made an improper left turn before the fatal collision, according to Lawrence Township Police Chief Christopher Longo.

McKithen was pronounced dead at the scene.

McKithen was just three weeks away from celebrating her graduation, the school district said. The Lawrence High School graduation ceremony is June 22.

In a statement to parents, Lawrence Township Public Schools Superintendent Ross Kasun said, "It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Daijah McKithen, a Lawrence High School senior involved in a fatal car accident this afternoon. This tragic event has left us all deeply saddened and our thoughts and condolences go out to Daijah’s family and friends during this difficult time. Many students and staff will be affected by this news."

The 28-year-old truck driver from Bordentown was hospitalized with moderate non-life-threatening injuries, Chief Longo said.

He had not been charged.

Video showed McKithen’s sedan traveling north on Brunswick Pike in the center lane before the collision, the chief said.

“As the sedan approached the traffic signal at Bakers Basin Road, the sedan made an abrupt left turn towards Franklin Corner Road across several lanes of traffic,” Longo said.
