A Lawrence, Kan., man will spend the next 109 months in prison after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in a fatal DUI crash. Adrian Martinez, 39, pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence and one count of aggravated battery while under the influence.Martinez received 75 months for involuntary manslaughter-DUI and 34 months for aggravated battery-DUI.“As we heard at sentencing, countless lives have been negatively impacted by one terrible and completely avoidable decision,” Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez said. “Those who choose to drive drunk must be held accountable for the pain they cause.”The fatal DUI crash happened on New Year’s Day 2022 in the 2500 block of West 6th Street. Martinez was heading west when his vehicle slammed into a car carrying three individuals. Two people were seriously hurt and James Henderson Jr., 20, died from his injuries.
