SWFD Board hears chief’s report, appoints interim seat 7 position
The South Walton Fire District Board of Commissioners met for its regular meeting on Monday, May 13, and during Fire Chief Ryan Crawford’s report the commissioners were made aware of a few noteworthy incidents. On Saturday, May 4, SWFD crews were dispatched to a structure fire in the Watersound area, with the call coming in as a residential alarm and later upgraded to a full structure fire after one of the home’s residents called 911 reporting smoke in the home. Once on scene, crews found smoke coming from the second floor, and immediately initiated a fire attack. The fire was knocked down in approximately 20 minutes. After investigation, the source of the fire was determined to most likely be an outdoor grill on the second floor. The smoke detectors successfully awoke the occupants of the home to the fire in time to react, and the total cost of damages is estimated to be $150,000.

The Walton County Technical Review Committee (TRC) has voted to move forward a McDonald’s in Miramar Beach, a two-lot Campbell Street plat, a rezoning on Thompson Road, a seven-lot subdivision in Inlet Beach, a concession building for Grayton Beach State Park, and a 338-lot subdivision proposed for 170+ acres north of SR-20 and east of Freeport.
