Small craft advisories were up on Tuesday and will be up on Wednesday. Lewes Harbour Marina told us none of their boats left the dock and only a few boats fished the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal on Tuesday. Those that braved the northeast winds did manage to catch a few flounder on minnows and Gulp!.

La Red arranges free haircuts for Pallet Shelter residents
La Red Health Center recently partnered with Springboard Collaborative and Imagination Hair Styles to provide free haircuts for individuals experiencing homelessness. Representatives from Seaford-based Imagination Hair Styles and La Red set up a hair style station at Springboard Collaborative’s Pallet Shelter Village in Georgetown May 17. Stylists from Imagination Hair Styles provided about 20 haircuts to residents living in the village. This is the third year La Red has offered free haircuts to homeless individuals in Georgetown.

Acoustic duo Kindred Spirits to perform June 4
Old Christ Church in Laurel will host a free concert by the acoustic duo Kindred Spirits at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 4, sponsored by the nonprofit Old Christ Church League. Kindred Spirits comprises Steve and Ali Quillen, who perform a rich and eclectic variety of Americana and Celtic music, ranging from bluegrass and traditional tunes and ballads to classic American pop standards. Local businesses support after-school running program
As more elementary schools in Sussex County establish Let Me Run teams, community partners are finding ways to support and encourage the boys who participate. Let Me Run is a seven-week after-school running program for fourth- and fifth-grade boys. While experiencing the positive benefits running has on their health and fitness, participants also build relationships and develop leadership skills to use in their classrooms and communities. Their training efforts culminate in a 5K race at the end of the season.

Salisbury Zoo’s Pinocchio to Leave for Nashville
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury Zoo has announced that their male Andean bear Pinocchio is heading to the Nashville Zoo on a breeding loan. Pinocchio, 10 years old, was recommended for the loan by the Species Survival Plan. According to the Zoo, the captive Andean bear population in the United States will benefit from Pinocchio’s pairing with a female at the Nashville Zoo.

The Wicomico River: The Soul of Salisbury is an examination the environmental importance of this river to the region. This documentary is a collaboration of the Delmarva Public Media staff with the Salisbury University's Environmental Studies Program to create the student-led audio documentary exploring key environmental topics related to the Wicomico River. The 11 students in Dr. Michael Lewis's Environmental Studies Seminar learned how to be reporters, interviewers and editors under the mentorship of Delmarva Public Media's Bryan Russo, director of production and operations, and Matthew Heim, deputy general manager & development director. The resultant piece by these new storytellers is an intriguing and insightful work which strengthens our commitment to producing local program. The project was funded with grants from the Chesapeake Bay Trust and City of Salisbury.
