A social media challenge is prompting an increase in car thefts across Sussex County, but some are connected to other criminal activity, police say. Of about a dozen car thefts or attempted car thefts so far this year, most have occurred in the Lewes area, said Sgt. Timothy Powell, who works with the Property Crimes Unit at Delaware State Police Troop 4.

UPDATED – 11:45am – A vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 24 and Long Neck Road Monday night around 10pm sent at least two people to area medical facilities. Delaware State Police tell the Talk of Delmarva that a Hyundai Sonata driven by a 17 year old Millsboro girl was in the left turn lane on Route 24 and had the green turn light. Police say the KIA Sportage, driven by a 60 year old woman from Millsboro, was westbound on Route 24 and failed to stop at the red light and struck the Hyundai. Both drivers were taken to an area hospital Police say the driver of the KIA was ticketed for failure to have insurance in her possession.

Delmar Resident Arrested Following High-Speed Chase, Charged with Weapons and Drug Paraphernalia Possession
Delaware State Police have arrested William Timmons, a 33-year-old man from Delmar, Delaware, on weapons charges. The arrest occurred on the evening of September 25, 2023, following a car chase. Timmons, who was driving a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo, was recognized by a trooper due to his involvement in a past investigation. The trooper also knew that there was an active arrest warrant for Timmons.

Delaware State Police continue to investigate a crash that shut down Hollyville Road for some time Monday afternoon just after 12:30pm. Police tell the Talk of Delmarva that a dump truck was northbound on Hollyville Road north of Lawson Road when it went off the edge of the roadway. The driver, a 59 year old man from Georgetown, over-corrected and the truck overturned – spilling a load of stones on the road.
Drug overdoses increase 23% in Sussex over last year
The Division of Forensic Science reported that 537 people died of a drug overdose in Delaware in 2022. This is a 4% increase from 2021.
