After ongoing floods, a handful of San Joaquin County mobile residents have still not left
Something as simple as getting the mail means grabbing a coat, rainboots, and treading through flood water for Della Parsley.
The flooding comes from the San Joaquin River, which is just feet away from the properties on Haven Acres Mobile Home Park in Lathrop.
Parsley’s home, and roughly 27 other properties on-site, have been surrounded by water for days. In some parts, the water was deeper than in others.
Life in a flood, she says, has not been easy.
“They turned our power off so, that was kind of rough,” Parsley said. “The last few floods we’ve had, we never had to have that shut off.”
Residents there said most people living here left for other locations after an evacuation order.
Only a handful are left, but those remaining are doing their best to look out for each other.
“A few of us stayed behind to be able to watch the homes that are here because they have traffic going down the river and we don't have a lot of lighting out here,” she said. “Just preventing people from breaking in and stuff."
Residents say multiple agencies including local law and fire department staff have been there to monitor the flood and check in on them.
Residents say the water has receded in the last couple days and they’re hoping the water won’t go up any higher.
The water in the area is coming from controlled releases, and ongoing rainfall is not expected to have an impact.
