The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is remembering two fallen officers on the nine-year anniversary of the tragic event.
It was back on June 8, 2014, when Officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo were ambushed while eating lunch at a Cici's Pizza restaurant by a couple who would later try to declare a revolution.
The duo then walked across the street to a Walmart, firing their weapons inside and killing a citizen, Joseph Wilcox, who tried to stop them.
On Thursday, the department recognized the three men on the anniversary of the senseless event with a video posted online.
The killers, identified as Jerad and Amanda Miller, would later be cornered by police inside the store, where they committed a murder-suicide.
In the nine years since the events of June 8, 2014, the community has come together to honor the fallen officers in many ways.
A community parkon the northwest side of town has been named after Officer Beck, which features the fallen officer tree grove, memorial wall, and memorial statute.
The Cici's Pizza location where the deadly events began also unveiled a heartfelt muralinside the east valley restaurant back in 2019.
Most notably, the Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo Memorial Scholarship Fund was established, which has been awarding local high school students with extra money for college for the past eight years.
