A 9/11 first responder now living in Las Vegas shared his thoughts on the merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.
LIV Golf is backed by the Saudi Arabian government's Public Investment Fund and has been the subject of controversy due to the country's human rights record.
The group 9/11 Families United decried the merger, saying Saudi operatives played a role in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Frank Pizarro, a retired New York firefighter who was among the first to respond to the World Trade Center, spoke with News 3 about his reaction to the merger.
"You can't just gloss over those things, you know," Pizarro said. "You have to take responsibility for those things first. Just because you bring a peace offering first doesn't mean you take responsibility for your participation in other things that have nothing to do with peace."
The merger has also raised some questions about the future of the PGA Tour's schedule, including here in Las Vegas.
Patrick Lindsey, executive director of the Shriners Children's Open, said they are moving ahead with the golf tournament planned for October at TPC Summerlin.
"Nothing has changed on that front – we are focused on providing a premium fan experience, supporting the mission of Shriners Children’s, and making a positive impact in our community like we do every year," Lindsey said in a statement provided to News 3.
