Fallen Chicago officer, Las Vegas native honored on birthday

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —
The family of a fallen Chicago police officer killed last month gathered outside a local hospital to honor what would have been her 25th birthday.

Officer Areanah Preston, who served the Chicago police force for three years, was born at Mountainview Hospital on June 7, 1998, and was laid to rest last month.
Every time she drove by the hospital, she said, "That's my hospital," and was very proud of being a Las Vegan.

On Wednesday, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers joined Preston's family outside Mountainview for a balloon release.
Preston's grandfather spoke about her impact on people's lives.

So far, four teenagers have been charged in her death.
