UPDATE 3:41 PM: According to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, one person has been found deceased, while another has yet to be accounted for as search efforts continue Monday afternoon.
In the city of Las Vegas, anytime a deceased person is found during a fire, the investigation is conducted by three agencies:
- Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Arson Investigators
- Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Homicide Unit
- Crime Scene Investigations, and the Clark County Coroner’s Office
"Six patients have been transported for injuries, all in stable condition," Fire & Rescue said in a statement. "One firefighter was injured but was cleared and returned to duty."
Eighteen people were displaced and the American Red Cross is providing support.
ORIGINAL 6:20 AM: Multiple people were taken to a hospital after a fire tore through an apartment complex building in the west Las Vegas valley Tuesday morning.
Firefighters could be seen spraying water from two hoses onto the building, part of a complex on Charleston Boulevard near Torrey Pines Drive.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue said crews were first called around 5:04 a.m., with a second alarm called within five minutes. The all-clear was given at 6:42 a.m.
Six people were taken to UMC, according to the fire agency, including a firefighter. Two people were described as being in serious but stable condition, while the other four were said to be in stable condition.
The firefighter was said to have suffered minor injuries and was back on duty later that morning.
One building is deemed a total loss, and 14 people have been displaced. Another nine people could also be forced from their apartments depending on whether repairs can be made to neighboring buildings, Fire & Rescue said.
The complex has already seen two 'accidental fires' within the past year. The first happened in November 2022 and most recently in April 2023.
One of those fires was due to pots left on the stove, while the other was a result of “discarded smoking materials,” due to someone smoking.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
