As the summer months approach, more people are headed to Nevada for mountain recreation.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials say there are about 100 emergency rescue calls a year from the mountains.
The search and rescue team is pressing that all visitors be prepared for emergencies.

"Make sure you take adequate water and food, take appropriate clothing, that means shoes and a jacket. It does get cool at night, even if you're not planning on staying out at night," said Sergeant Matt Marlow. "You might get stuck, lost, or injured and have to stay overnight. So we encourage folks to have a personal locator beacon if they can like a spotters, GPS type situation so that they can signal for help if they needed to."
In certain altitudes, hikers should be aware of lost phone service, but LVMPD said you can still contact police.
"There's now SOS on the top of your phone," said Officer Diana Wohlers. "But 911, there is no service, so you won't be able to call a buddy to come and help you. But you do get to call 911 or text 911 as well. So even without service, that'll still go through."
Sergeant Marlow says going with someone is always recommended in case of an emergency. He also said wearing bright-colored clothing can be helpful to rescuers when trying to find someone lost.
