Cervantes will retire effective Sept. 1 after submitting his notice to the mayor and city council, according to the city. It's unclear who will take over his role in the interim after that date.
Cervantes has been employed by Las Vegas since 1998, when he came on as a project manager, according to his biography on the city website.
He has served as a traffic engineer, city engineer, director of public works, executive director of community development, and chief operations and development officer.
