UPDATE, June 28 | Las Vegas police say 45-year-old Tony Santini, the bicyclist involved in the crash, has died.
The Clark County Coroner's office notified LVMPD that Santini succumbed to his injuries on June 27.
His death marks the 64th traffic-related fatality in the department's jurisdiction so far this year.
ORIGINAL | A motorcyclist is dead and a cyclist is critically injured after the two collided in the east Las Vegas valley Monday night, according to police.
The crash was reported just after 10:40 p.m. on E. Desert Inn Road east of Mojave Road, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
Investigators believe the motorcyclist, identified by the Clark County Coroner as 26-year-old Edgar Gonzalez Carabes, was heading west at a high rate of speed, at the same time that a bicyclist was crossing Desert Inn.
The motorcycle struck the cyclist, and both riders were taken to Sunrise Hospital for treatment. The motorcycle rider died from his injuries, police say.
The bicyclist, a 45-year-old Las Vegas man, remains hospitalized with critical injuries as of Tuesday morning.
According to LVMPD, the motorcyclist's death marks the 53rd traffic-related fatality in their jurisdiction so far this year.
