A massive fire completely gutted a home after people reported hearing an explosion in their east Las Vegas valley neighborhood early Friday morning, according to firefighters.
Someone called 911 at about 12:48 a.m. to report the explosion and finding a house on fire in the 2100 block of Brassy Drive, near Nellis Boulevard and Sahara Avenue, Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Jennifer Wyatt said in an email.
Crews arrived and saw the house was fully engulfed in flames, and they declared a defensive attack due to the size of the fire.
Command called a second alarm to protect the neighboring homes, Wyatt said, but the crews on scene were able to knock down the bulk of the fire and those second-alarm units were canceled.
Wyatt called the damage to the home extensive, saying no roof or backside to the house was left.
One person was living in the home, officials determined, but nobody was found inside and no firefighters reported any injuries.
A camera belonging to Eric Ramirez, who lives down the street, captured footage of the house engulfed in flames.
"All of a sudden, I hear a rumble, the house shakes, [and] the windows are going back and forth," Ramirez said. "And I'm like, what is this?"
He said it didn't take long for firefighters to arrive, but the fire spread so fast that the house was already gone by the time they got to the scene.
Fire investigators and the fire department's accelerant dog were called to the scene, along with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, due to the size of the fire and the fact an explosion was heard.
Still, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
