Miranda Lambert abruptly cancels Las Vegas residency show due to doctor-ordered vocal rest

By Kevin Kayhart For,

Miranda Lambert had to pull the plug on Thursday's show at the Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas due to vocal cord problems.

Earlier in the day, the country crooner took to social media and issued a statement, revealing that she has been placed on vocal rest by her doctor and is unable to perform at this time.

The show was part of the latest leg of the Miranda Lambert : Velvet Rodeo The Las Vegas Residency that's slated to run five more shows through April 9.

'Hey y'all, I have been under a doctor's care all day to see if things improved, however unfortunately I've been put on vocal rest and we have to cancel out show tonight,' she wrote in a statement posted on Instagram and Twitter .

The Longview, Texas native went on to apologize for the abrupt cancellation, which came about three-and-a-half hours before the eight o'clock start time, and promised she's doing everything in her power to be healed enough to play this weekend.

'To those fans who made plans to spend their Thursday night with us, I truly apologize,' she continued in the statement. 'I am working hard to get better for the shows on Saturday and Sunday. See you all soon, and thank you for understanding.'

She ended the posted by offering information on the options available to fans who had bought tickets to the March 30 show.

'Tickets purchased through Ticketmaster will automatically be refunded, otherwise please contact your point of purchase for their refund policy. Please visit or visit the Bakkt Theater box office for tickets to other Velvet Rodeo shows this weekend,' she concluded.

Currently, Lambert is scheduled to make her return to the Bakkt Theater stage on Saturday, April 1, if all things go well and she's able to perform up to her self-imposed standards.

The ongoing residency also includes concerts on April 2, 6, 8 and 9, which are Sunday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, according to her website .

This is not the first time Lambert has needed to take a break from performing due to doctors-ordered vocal rest.

In 2012, she had to cancel multiple shows while dealing with vocal cord issues, including inflammation, Saving Country Music reported at the time.

The problem would arise again in 2015 that resulted in her concert in Calgary, Canada being temporarily canceled.

The following year she had several more shows canceled in her home state of Texas when she got a case of laryngitis or something similar.

Lambert's Velvet Rodeo residency in Las Vegas is a celebration of her nearly two decades as a country music superstar that dates back to her self-titled debut that dropped in 2001.

In all, she's released nine studio albums and one collaborative record, which she did with Jack Ingram and Jon Randall in 2021, as a solo artist ,and four more albums as one-third of the female country group Pistol Annies alongside Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley.

The most decorated artist in the history of the Academy Of Country Music, Lambert has earned 37 ACM Awards including the current ACM Entertainer Of The Year title and a record-setting nine consecutive Female Artist Of The Year Awards, 14 CMA Awards, three Grammy Awards, the Nashville Symphony Harmony Award, ACM Gene Weed Milestone Award and ACM Song of the Decade Award, among others.
