One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash in the west Las Vegas valley Tuesday morning, police have confirmed.

Officers and first responders could be seen outside a heavily damaged car on Rainbow Boulevard just north of Smoke Ranch Road.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said in an email that the collision was reported around 5:47 a.m.

Following an investigation, detectives found that a 2010 Infiniti G37 was traveling south on Rainbow Blvd while a 2014 Republic Services trash truck was exiting a business.

The crash happened when the Infiniti stuck the trash truck as it was making a left-hand turn onto Rainbow. Arriving emergency medical personnel pronounced the 26-year-old driver dead at the scene.

The driver of the Republic Services truck remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment, according to police.

The Infiniti driver’s death marked the 26th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for 2023.
