Jackpot! Patriots Legend Tom Brady Becomes Las Vegas Owner

By Geoff Magliocchetti,

New England Patriots legend Tom Brady, a seven-time NFL champion, has joined the ownership group of the Las Vegas Aces, a WNBA team looking to embark on a similar run.

Tom Brady earned seven Super Bowl rings, all but one with the New England Patriots. That, however, is apparently not enough to satisfy his championship tastes.

The Las Vegas Aces, the defending champions of the WNBA, announced that Brady acquired an ownership interest in the team this week, pending Association approval. Brady joins up with Mark Davis, who also owns the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders.

“I have always been a huge fan of women’s sports, and I admire the work that the Aces’ players, staff, and the WNBA continue to do to grow the sport and empower future generations of athletes," Brady said in a statement from the team. "To be able to contribute in any way to that mission as a member of the Aces organization is an incredible honor.”

Brady, 45, said he was inspired to enter the realm of women's sports by his sisters Julie, Maureen, and Nancy.

“My love for women’s sports began at a young age when I would tag along to all my older sisters’ games," Brady said. "They were by far the best athletes in our house! We celebrated their accomplishments together as a family, and they remain a great inspiration to me."

The Aces perhaps more than satisfy Brady's championship thirst: fresh off their first WNBA title, the Aces boast several notable names across the basketball spectrum including defending WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson, as well as All-Stars Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young. The team also brought in two-time WNBA champion and MVP Candace Parker from Chicago and is coached by Association legend Becky Hammon.

Ironically enough, Las Vegas defeated New England's WNBA team, the Connecticut Sun, in four games to capture the first title in a franchise history that dates back to 1997 and also worked through Salt Lake City (1997-2002) and San Antonio (2003-17).

The Aces' 2023 season opens on May 20 when they take on the Seattle Storm.
