A judge ordered the man accused of biting a Las Vegas police officer during a barricade situation on a public bus Monday to remain held.
Allyn McFarland, 29, did not appear for his initial court hearing Wednesday because he remained at the hospital, and a public defender was appointed to represent him.
Judge Rebecca Saxe said during the brief hearing that McFarland had a probation hold and an extensive violent history.
She noted that custody can be addressed at the next court hearing, which is scheduled for Monday, March 27.
No other details were discussed regarding Monday's incident or McFarland's status.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said they got a report that someone attacked a bus security officer with a trash can and rocks, and the bus was stopped at Blue Diamond Road and Durango Drive.
Officers found McFarland alone on the bus and learned he collected several rocks before they arrived. They tried to get him to leave the bus, but he refused.
Police say a K9 officer, his dog and other officers got onto the bus to take him into custody, but a struggle ensued. The K9 dog bit McFarland, who was also able to bite one officer and strike other officers as well.
The injured officers got treatment at UMC and were subsequently released, according to LVMPD. McFarland was also taken to UMC, and a police spokesman confirmed he had been booked in absentia.
He's facing charges of battery with substantial bodily harm, battery on a protected person, mayhem, and mistreatment of a police animal. A booking photo has not been released.
