Woman killed in multi-vehicle crash, 6 injured in west Las Vegas valley

Update: The person killed has been identified as Mirta Curbelo, 73, of Las Vegas. Her cause of death is still pending.
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A multi-vehicle crash in the west Las Vegas valley left a 73-year-old woman dead and sent at least six people to the hospital on Tuesday.
It happened just after 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Desert Inn and Jones, Metro police said.

The driver of a Nissan pickup truck is accused of losing control and crashing into a car, which then caused a chain reaction, police stated in a news release.
The pickup truck then crossed the median and hit another car head-on.
The woman killed was a passenger in the car hit head-on and was pronounced dead by hospital staff.
Police do not believe impairment played a factor in the crash.
The incident was the fourth deadly crash on Tuesday along Las Vegas valley roadways.
The passenger’s death marks the 25th traffic-related fatality for 2023.
Desert Inn Road was closed in both directions between Jones Boulevard and Red Rock Street during the investigation.
