St. Petersburg Police announces plan to cut down on young felony offenders
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Petersburg Police Department announced its new program to help prevent young people in the area from committing crimes. The Youth Care Program will start this week with Lisa Wheeler-Bowman, the city’s community impact and safety liaison, spearheading it. She will interview children involved in crimes and family members to make recommendations about how they should proceed. Wheeler-Bowman will make recommendations to services already in place based on the child's needs.

St. Petersburg woman accused of leaving dog in hot car while attending community meeting
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A 24-year-old woman was charged with animal cruelty on Monday afternoon after leaving a dog in a hot car, according to police. Melissa Major is accused of leaving a dog inside her car for about an hour and a half while she attended an Urban Forestry Council meeting at City Hall. The police department says someone saw the dog locked in the car and called for help.

Pinellas County pushes deadline for residents of mobile home park told to leave
Pinellas County has given residents of a frequently flooded mobile home park an extra year to elevate their homes to nearly 11 feet. County officials had previously told homeowners at the Twin City park in the Gandy area they would have to complete the work or leave by the start of the hurricane season on June 1.
