The commuter problem does not end at the parking deck
Virginia Commonwealth University simply does not have enough dorms to house the majority of its students, and because of that, many students commute. Many find off-campus housing within walking distance or at least a short drive away. However, there are still students who drive 30 minutes to an hour to get to campus.

Hopewell wants to pave 20 roads by the end of September
If you live in Hopewell's Ward 1, be on the lookout next week for crews paving several streets. The city announced Sept. 3 that work will begin Sept. 10 on 19 streets in the district and, weather permitting, continue through the rest of September. Temporary no-parking signs will go up Sept. 8, and residents are reminded to make sure any vehicles they normally leave on the street be moved to allow a clear work path. "Motorists traveling through the affected areas should use caution, remain alert for construction crews and equipment and anticipate temporary traffic impacts while work is under way," the city announcement read. Streets to be repaved are: East and West Cawson Street; North 15th Avenue; East Poythress Street; Division Street; South14th Avenue; Marks Street; Dolin Street; South 13th Avenue; Weston Street; Buren Street; South 12th Avenue; Kippax Street; Fern Street; North 11th Avenue; Monroe Street; Woodbine Street; North 10th Avenue; Eppes Street; North 20th Avenue South 9th Avenue. The streets to be paved can also be found on an interactive street paving map created by the city. The project is being coordinated by the Hopewell Department of Public Works. Paving will be done by New Market Corp.

Chesterfield's answer to more traffic: roundabouts
Chesterfield's explosive population growth has had a surprising side effect that drivers love to hate: more roundabouts. Why it matters: The county has added nearly 37,000 people since 2020 , putting more pressure on a road network already struggling with congestion in some of its fastest-growing areas. County spokesperson Stephen Bays tells Axios that recent and upcoming roundabout projects are one response to rising traffic volumes. The big picture: The once-uncommon roundabouts are becoming a go-to standard in the Richmond area as officials look to slow speeds, reduce crashes and keep traffic moving through intersections. Chesterfield has at least 10 roundabout projects on its current transportation list — from Commonwealth Center Parkway to Matoaca Road — with some stretching into 2030, per the county site . One is aimed at alleviating congestion off Route 360, where the county expects traffic to increase from 78,000 cars a day to 120,000 by 2040 . Meanwhile, Henrico has at least a dozen more in the works and Richmond is planning four as part of its Shockoe Valley redesign . How it works: Chesterfield and VDOT weigh crash history, traffic volumes, speeds, traffic patterns and projected growth when deciding how to improve an intersection,
