Sheriff: Masked robbers break into Polk County home with kids inside, leave empty-handed
DOWN THE DOOR OF THIS HOME IN NORTH LAKELAND. PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE SAY THIS IS NOT THE KIND OF THING EXPECT IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD. IT’S JUST VERY UNCHARACTERISTIC. I MEAN, YOU TAKE A LOOK AROUND. I MEAN, IT’S A NEIGHBORHOOD. THE BREAK IN HAPPENED JUST AFTER 3:00 IN THE MORNING. SATURDAY NIGHT. AND NEIGHBORS WONDER WHY THIS HOME AND THIS NEIGHBORHOOD WERE TARGETED. THERE’S PROBABLY VERY FEW HOMES THAT DON’T HAVE CAMERAS. BETWEEN YOU AND ME, MANY PEOPLE OWN GUNS. SOMEBODY HAS GOT TO BE OUT OF THEIR MIND, YOU KNOW, TO BREAK INTO A HOME AND A NEIGHBOR LIKE THIS. SHANE MOORE IS NEW TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD, BUT SAYS IT DOESN’T APPEAR TO BE THE TYPE OF PLACE WHERE A HOME INVASION WOULD HAPPEN. EVERYBODY HERE IS FRIENDLY, MAN. WE GET ALONG AND WE PARK ON THE WEEKENDS AROUND THE STREET OR PLAYING CORNHOLE OR POLE. COUNTY SHERIFF GRADY JUDD SAID THE THIEVES DOWN THE DOOR AND ENTERED THE HOME BUT DIDN’T GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING. WHEN THE BURGLARS DID, THE HOME INVASION HEARD THE KIDS SCREAM AND CRY AND AND NOTICED IT WAS KIDS THERE. HE TOLD THE OTHERS, LET’S GO WITH THE KIDS. AND THEY LEFT WITHOUT TAKING ANYTHING. HIS INVESTIGATORS ARE ALSO WONDERING WHY THE THIEVES CHOSE THIS HOUSE. WELL, IT’S DANGEROUS FOR THE ONES WHO KICK THE DOOR. AND I CAN TELL YOU, IF YOU KICK MY DOOR IN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, I WOULD KILL YOU. GRAVEYARD DEAD. AND THE OWNERS OF THE HOUSE WOULD CERTAINLY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DO
