The first championship field is set on the Section VII high school diamond. After a 12-7 win by No. 2 Crown Point High School over No. 3 Chazy High School and a 14-0 win by No. 1 Lake Placid High School over No. 5 Schroon Lake-Bolton's combo team, both schools will match up against each other in the Class D championship. "Playing really strong this game gives us a lot of hope," said Lake Placid senior first baseman Foster Wood. "It will be good to see what we can do (in the finals)."Both schools scored over double digits in runs. Lake Placid's offense was led by sophomore Vann Morelli, hitting 3 for 4, while scoring three runs. Crown Point featured strong offensive play from juniors Alex Stone and Reese Pertak, combining for six hits featuring two triples. Crown Point junior Evan Carey was the winning pitcher throwing 8 strikeouts. Lake Placid senior Patrick Colby pitched a complete game shutout, while fanning 12 batters in the process. "It was our first shutout of the season," Colby said. "It was good to see all of our work come together in this game." Lake Placid has swept Crown Point in both of their regular season meetings. After their performance against Schroon Lake-Bolton, it's fair for Lake Placid to have a bit of extra confidence heading into the third meeting. "I think we have a really good chance," Colby said. "From one to nine, all through the lineup, we can hit, we can pitch, we can field. This is a great group of guys, and we have a really good chance."The Class D championship is set for Wednesday, May 24, at 4:30 p.m. at SUNY Plattsburgh's Chip Cummings Field.
