On Memorial Day Monday, May 27 the Lake Oswego Veterans Memorial Honoring Service will unveil a new addition to the memorial at Foothills Park.

As they have for the past several years, the honoring service and the city of Lake Oswego will commemorate fallen soldiers and veterans at 11 a.m. Memorial Day.

The ceremony will include a keynote address from Army security agent and Vietnam veteran First Lieutenant Mike Holm, who is on the Lake Oswego Veterans Memorial Service board of directors, as well as a presentation of colors, a 21-gun salute, an invocation from Our Lady of the Lake’s Father Charles Zach and a performance of the national anthem by Lakeridge High School students. The West Coast Ravens, a group of RV-plane pilots, will perform a flyover of the event.

Veterans Memorial Honoring Service President Bob Hill said the ceremony will include the unveiling of two new plaques at the memorial. The blue star plaque, he explained, honors soldiers currently serving their country while the gold star plaque will commemorate those who were killed during their service.

“It means a lot to me as a veteran that we can bring people in on Memorial Day and Veterans Day to celebrate veterans and celebrate the fallen,” Hill said.
