LAKE IN THE HILLS, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The owner of UpRising Bakery in Lake in the Hills said she has now permanently closed the business - a year after her plans to stage a family-friendly drag show brought controversy - and vandalism.

Not only has UpRising Bakery owner Corinna Sac closed the shop - she said the vandalism, the harassment, the threats against her for the past year have taken away her passion for baking.

"It is not my happy place anymore," Sac said.

"When someone attacks you so aggressively for so long and goes after your art and your passion for so long, it's hard and I'm being honest when I say that they stripped it from me.  In that way they won.  In other ways, they've just fueled the fire."

Corinna Sac said she gave away her baking and cooking supplies to refugees coming to sanctuary cities.

She also said she's gratified by most comments on social media - from people upset she's closed.

Sac said she plans to work on legislative reform centered on hate crimes.
