Reid Johnston and Trenton Denholm combined for some steady work on the mound for the Captains, but got very little help at the plate as Lake County fell, 2-1, to Great Lakes at Dow Diamond on June 6.
Johnston went 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out six, but did not factor in the decision.
Denholm (2-1) took the loss, going 2 2/3 innings in relief and yielding one run on two hits. He fanned three.
The Captains (25-27) amassed just two hits on the night, both of which came from Dayan Frias.
Frias tripled and scored on Junior Sanquintin’s groundout in the third.
The teams continue their series at 7:05 p.m. June 7.
