Telluride Arts District appoints interim executive director
The Telluride Council for the Arts and Humanities announced on May 22 the departure of Kate Jones, executive director of the Telluride Arts District (TAD). Nonprofit arts executive Gene Sobczak, a former CEO of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, has been appointed as the interim executive director.
New Colorado state legislation to protect wetlands
Thousands of acres of wetlands across Colorado could soon be protected again following the passing of recent state legislation with bipartisan support. At least half of Colorado’s wetlands lost federal protections after a 2023 US Supreme Court decision. House Bill 1379, sponsored by House Speaker Julie McCluskie, Rep. Karen McCormick, and Sen. Dylan Roberts, aims to help boost state regulations. Around Telluride, valuable source waters such as fens were left vulnerable, and the new legislation will help protect local watersheds.
