Bomb squad assesses danger of two suspicious packages in downtown; all-clear given

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Wednesday afternoon, the Tippecanoe County bomb squad was sent out to the Charles A. Halleck Federal Building in downtown to examine two suspicious packages left outside of the building.

Lafayette Police Department received a call about the packages at 12:01 p.m. and shortly after arrived on the scene.

Police evacuated the immediate area and blocked off Ferry Street before the Tippecanoe County bomb squad appeared at the scene.

The bomb squad deployed a tactical robot to assess the danger of the packages for around an hour, before determining that the packages did not contain a bomb or anything that would have put people in the area in danger.

The packages contained an air compressor and a broken electronic wheel, according to police at the scene.

Police finished their investigation around 2:30 pm.
