Huskers Earn Four Titles Saturday
WACO, TEXAS – Nebraska track and field earned four titles on Saturday at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas, while adding an Olympic Standard. Axelina Johansson headlined a Nebraska top-four sweep in the shot put, hitting the Olympic Standard and setting a facility record at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium. The 61-9 (18.82m) was the best in the field by over two meters. Kalynn Meyer placed second with a 53-3 ¾ (16.25m), Amelia Flynt finished third with a 53-0 (16.15m) and Kellyn Kortemeyer took fourth with a 51-5 ¾ (15.69m).
West girls, East boys win All-Star games
It was a West-East split at the 19th edition of the Azalea Orthopedics All-Star Basketball Classic Saturday night at Tyler Junior College’s Wagstaff Classic. The West girls opened the night with a 67-55 win over the East. The East boys closed the night with a 74-59 victory over the West. In between the games, West’s team of Khyra Garrett (Brownsboro), Jadyn Welch (Bullard) and Ja’Yanna Johnson (Palestine) won the shooting competition, defeating three girls teams and two boys teams, and Kollin Robinson (Tatum) won the dunk competition.
