Abita Springs art show reflects nature's beauty in St. Tammany
Some 25 local artists created, on location, the 82 landscape paintings exhibited in this year's 15th En Plein Air (out in the open air) show at the Abita Springs Trailhead Museum on April 12-14. The show, a joyful celebration of spring and the natural beauty found in St. Tammany Parish, drew the largest opening reception crowd in the event's history. As always, the annual show was free and open to the public.

A ridge of high pressure over the northern Gulf will keep our temperatures high and rain chances low through the weekend. At the surface, our winds will be southeasterly for the next few days which will bring the warmth and moisture from the Gulf of Mexico into SELA, which means higher dew points and increasing cloud cover through Sunday. The winds will be getting stronger through the weekend, expect wind gusts of 25 to 35mph especially Friday through Sunday. For the first week of Jazz Fest and the Zurich Classic, expect partly to mostly cloudy, warm, humid and windy conditions with rain chances at 20% or less.

Voters in Slidell approved a new sales tax for police on Saturday. The sales tax, just over one-third of a cent, will replace two existing property taxes that had been dedicated to the police department. Slidell man dead after driving off Highway 90 near Bridge City, state police say
A Slidell man was killed Tuesday when he drove off U.S. Highway 90 and hit a bridge near Bridge City, according to Louisiana State Police. Xavier Gonzales, 44, was driving east on Highway 90 between Nine Mile Point Road and Seven Oaks Boulevard when he drove is 2023 Chevy Bolt off the left side of the road and collided with the supports of a bridge, police said.
